Jefferson County Board of Health Announces "Public Health Heroes" at April Meeting

I have been a a member of the Jefferson County Board of Health for about five months now, and it is volunteer work on behalf of the community that I am proud to do. Every meeting is interesting and touches on important issues. At the meeting yesterday afternoon, April 19, 2019, the Board announced this year’s recipients of the Public Health Hero awards. The press release announcing the recipients described these great community members this way:

A retired NASA research scientist, an organization that connects students to physical activity and clean transportation through experiences with bicycles, a Jefferson County Public Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to ensuring access to family planning services regardless of income and personal circumstances and dedication to adolescent health through work in the community and in school based health clinics, a professional in the Dove House who believes in the right of every individual to feel and be safe and offers services accordingly, a Community Based Specialist from the Health Care Authority dedicated to assisting people navigate WA Health Plan Finder to sign up for Apple Health, and a former board member of Jefferson Land Trust who lives his life devoted to protecting habitat and reducing the causes contributing to climate change.

It was an honor to hand out the certificates to each of the recipients. To read the full press release, go here.
